History, history, history. The Shot Tower itself is wonderful to look at and read about. There is also miles of walking and bike trails that run along the New River with beautiful views. Picnic tables available but no shelters. Only a few minutes drive off of I77.
My 5 year old loved it! It's off the beaten path but a great stop. Beautiful views and a quick history lesson. We enjoyed stretching our legs and learning at the same time!
Nice pitstop on a long road trip. Clean bathrooms and some nice trails by the river. There a historical shot tower and some history about how it worked. It would have nice if it had been open so you could walk up. $5 to park was the only downside.
Really nice park. It costs $5 to use their parking lot. There's a restroom right here. If you go down the hill it intersects to a trail that runs along a river. We walked towards the right as you're facing the river. To the falls. They have canoes there for how. There are stairs to climb back up from the trail. So if someone can't do those stairs they might want to park at the other location by the falls.
Apparently the doors to the tower are only open on the weekends from what one of the rangers told us. So plan accordingly if you wanted to climb the tower. Really awesome history, nice hiking and biking trail along the river.
